God's Mountain Estate Wedding: Maddie + Marshal
Mediterranean character, Okanagan light and a celebration above the lake.
Photography by Sambajoy
Before Maddie and Marshal got in touch, Sambajoy had twice received enquiries for God’s Mountain Estate when the dates were already booked. Their wedding finally brought the opportunity to photograph this Penticton venue. With vineyards, apple trees, characterful rooms, Mediterranean architecture and a panoramic lake view, the estate has a distinct identity. I let those surroundings establish the scene while bringing the attention back to the couple.
A summer day above the lake
Their July celebration took place on a summer day with a little smoke in the air. A romantic first look came before the outdoor ceremony facing the lake. That sequence gives the story an intimate beginning, followed by the gathering everyone had come to share. The open view makes an expansive backdrop without diminishing the quieter encounter that preceded the vows.
I balance wide landscapes with expressions and gestures. Architecture can frame a portrait, while the vineyard, pool and apple trees give the property its character. For your own wedding, the choice of portrait location should reflect what brought you here. I want the surroundings to feel connected to you, rather than simply making a beautiful scene around the edge of the frame.
Two long tables, then dancing under the stars
At the reception, guests gathered at two long tables like one big family. The evening ended with dancing under the stars. From the first look to the lake-facing vows, dinner and dancing, the day has a clear progression. I follow that movement while noticing the smaller exchanges within it, so the finished collection carries more than a view of the venue.
Tell me whether the landscape or the architecture first caught your attention at God’s Mountain. That is a useful place to begin our conversation about portraits. I want your collection to bring you back to the setting you chose and to the company around those tables, with the quieter moments given as much care as the evening celebration.
