Vancouver Club Wedding Photos: Kylene + John’s Celebration

A little elegance. A lot of feeling.

Kylene and John first met Marcelo and me at a friend’s wedding on Gambier Island. I felt honoured when they asked us to photograph their own celebration. It was our first wedding at The Vancouver Club, on a spring day, and John’s reaction as Kylene walked down the aisle still stays with me. He was crying, their puppy Rupert was beside him, and a silly song began to play. That combination made an elegant occasion unmistakably theirs.

The room and the reaction

They exchanged vows in front of a flower-covered mantel. Afterwards, a quieter frame shows them signing their wedding documents in window light. I give both moments attention: the ceremony everyone has gathered to witness and the smaller exchanges surrounding it. John’s expression and Rupert’s presence say as much about this wedding as the room where it took place.

Shirley from Filosophi Events planned the reception and filled it with candles. Red-and-white flowers and a gold animal place-card holder appear among the table details. I remember the care in that setting, alongside the feeling of the celebration itself. From window light at the signing to flash on the dance floor, the collection follows the changing atmosphere as their guests look on.

A little city air

The portraits step outside too. Kylene’s veil lifts into the air in a sidewalk frame; elsewhere, golden doorways surround the couple and Rupert. His appearance here connects these city portraits with his place beside John during the ceremony. I like those threads within a wedding story, where a familiar presence brings different parts of the day together.

For me, the outdoor portraits sit naturally beside the signing, the ceremony reactions and the candlelit reception. Each offers a different way back into the same day. When planning your own coverage, I want the photography to fit comfortably around your celebration, with attention to the details you chose and the reactions you could never have arranged.
