Bowen Island Lodge Wedding: K + T’s Summer Celebration
A ferry ride away, and completely in their own world.
Photography by Sambajoy · Madalena Leles Cohen
I travelled by ferry to K and T’s Bowen Island wedding on a beautiful sunny day. They had chosen Bowen Island Lodge for their late-summer September celebration, close to Vancouver but with the feeling of being away together. The journey was already part of the story before the wedding began. I look for that sense of arrival alongside the formal occasions, with attention to the breeze, the surroundings and the way a gathering settles into a different place.
Let the island set the pace
The collection moves between natural scenery and the relaxed energy of everyone who made the trip. The coast gives the setting its character; the guests make it belong to K and T. Sunshine and the bright summer atmosphere run through the day, lending continuity to images made at different moments of the celebration.
I follow transitions as well as planned events. An arrival or a walk between places can be part of what you remember about an island wedding. Giving those moments attention allows the collection to follow the pace of the day. I want the surroundings to remain visible without overlooking the expressions and exchanges close by.
The journey and the details
The dress was by Morilee, with beauty by Save the Date. Bowen Island Lodge provided the setting for their gathering. These choices belong within the story of the couple and their guests, alongside the natural backdrop. I give a detail its own space when it adds to that story, then return to the connection between those celebrating.
When we discuss your Bowen Island plans, tell me what draws you to the lodge and how the journey fits into your day. The ferry was part of my arrival for K and T’s wedding, so travel belongs in that conversation too. I want the photography plan to reflect your arrangements, with room for the portraits, the company and the quieter transitions you may value just as much afterwards.
